Your EU Responsible Person under the General Product Safety Regulation
For manufacturers and online sellers established outside the EU, getGPSR.eu can act as the EU Responsible Person required under Article 16 of Regulation (EU) 2023/988 before certain consumer products are placed on the EU market.
Article 16 of the GPSR requires that a responsible economic operator be established in the EU for products in scope, before they are placed on the EU market. That role can be filled by the EU manufacturer, the EU importer, an appointed authorised representative, or in some cases a fulfilment service provider - the choice depends on your existing supply chain, not on marketing preference.
Where no EU economic operator already covers this role, we can be appointed as your Responsible Person. The appointment covers the tasks defined in Article 16: verifying required documentation exists, cooperating with market surveillance authorities, and acting as the EU-based contact point named on the product or its packaging.
The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not identical. Every product in scope of the GPSR needs a Responsible Person established in the EU. An Authorised Representative is one way to fill that role when no EU manufacturer, importer or fulfilment provider already does. We act as your Authorised Representative and, in that capacity, assume the Responsible Person duties under Article 16.
Note: This page provides general information. Specific obligations depend on your product and applicable EU legislation.
