Your EU Responsible Person under the General Product Safety Regulation

GPSR labelling and traceability requirements

The General Product Safety Regulation makes every consumer product traceable to a person who can be contacted in the EU. Most of that information has to be physically on the product, its packaging or an accompanying document.

Where the information can go

The identifier should be on the product itself wherever possible. The manufacturer's details go on the product or, where that is not possible, on its packaging or an accompanying document; the EU Responsible Person's details may also go on the parcel. For online sales, the same information must also appear in the product listing - see online listing requirements.

Common mistakes

1

Only a website address

An electronic address is required in addition to a postal address, not instead of it.

2

No EU contact

A non-EU manufacturer's address alone is not enough; the EU economic operator must also appear.

3

No identifier

Products without a type, batch or serial number cannot be traced in a recall.

4

English-only warnings

Warnings must be in the language required by each Member State where you sell.

A language easily understood by consumers, as determined by the Member State where the product is made available.
